5 Easy Ways to Work Exercise Into Your Day
With reports that obesity is on the rise, there’s never been a more crucial time to find ways to work a little extra exercise into your day. However, with busy working and family lives, adding another activity into your day is often the last thing you’ll feel like doing.
Here, we’ll be offering up 5 ways you can sneak a little added exercise into your day, without too much time or exertion.
- Make an effort to step more
In a world where we turn to digital devices for everything from advice on symptoms of sickness to directions, it’s little wonder that there’s also an increase in tech that helps us work out. There are any number of benefits associated with walking more, from improving circulation to aiding weight loss.
If you’re struggling to find ways to fit exercise in, this one couldn’t be easier. Whether you’re cooking dinner, going to the bathroom or heading out for lunch, keep your steps in mind and become more conscious of the time you spend sitting. This will soon become second nature and you won’t feel like you’re exercising at all.
- Start taking the stairs
Any health article will tell you to take the stairs over the lift or escalator, and they’re right! If a sweaty walk up the stairs when you arrive at the office isn’t all that appealing, treat yourself to one use of the lift a day and commit to using the stairs every other time.
While at work, consider using the bathroom on another floor so you’re forced to use the stairs more. If all else fails, at the very least you can be using them every time you go downstairs. Again, it won’t be long before this becomes a regular part of your routine.
- Change up your commute
For many of us, the commute to work is something we do without thinking about it – but this lack of mindfulness could be damaging to both your physical and mental health. In an effort to invigorate your morning journey, why not switch up your mode of transport?
By investing in a road bike, you’ll be providing yourself with a cost-effective transport option that can be used for your working week and on weekends. Pack a change of clothes in a lightweight backpack and hit the road on two wheels. Your body will soon be thanking you for this change in routine!
- Switch to standing meetings
For office workers, the majority of the working day is spent sedentary at their desks – but there’s no reason a little exercise can’t be incorporated into your busy daily schedule. Encourage your staff to get involved with your fitness plans by arranging standing meetings where everyone moves away from their desks.
This will not only keep your body active when it would otherwise be sitting still, but it will also help you and your team to stay alert and switched on throughout the meeting. If possible, encourage your company to invest in standing desks which can be used in a hot-desking situation, so employees have the option to stand up and leave their chair.
- Turn housework into a workout
Finally, housework is inevitable – even if you’re fortunate enough to have a cleaner and are only responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of your home. If housework simply must be done, why not turn it into a workout?
Whether you’re dusting the skirting boards, hoovering the bedrooms or washing the windows, get your favourite tunes playing and turn an otherwise mundane chore into something you’ll actually enjoy doing.
However you choose to introduce a little exercise to your day, with these top 5 tips, you’ll be one step closer to feeling fitter.
