Best Hanoi Golf Courses
Hanoi has a tremendous selection of golf courses to choose from, including some of the best in the whole of Vietnam. Therefore, when it comes to choosing the best golf course in Hanoi, it can become quite difficult, as they each have so much to offer and vary in their layout and the challenges they provide. Some of the golf courses in Hanoi, especially around the outskirts and into the mountains, have hosted international tournaments and this highlights the quality of courses available in the region.
One of the best golf courses in Hanoi, has to be Chi Linh Star Golf and Country Club, which is actually one of the newest golf courses in the country. However, having only been constructed in 2003, it played host to the first professional golf tournament in north Vietnam, the 2004 Carlsberg Masters. Situated in a lovely valley, with rolling hills, forests, creeks, lakes and natural water hazards, Chi Linh Star Golf not only provides a challenging round of golf but a very scenic one too. Several holes feature tee shots which require the ball to carry over water and others have island greens, surrounded by lakes. If you are enjoying a low scoring round, be prepared for the 18th hole, which is a 680 yard, uphill par-5, as this has the potential to damage any scorecard. The greens and fairways are always in good condition and Chi Linh Star Golf and Country Club, is certainly a contender for best Hanoi golf course.
Located 30 minutes from the centre of Hanoi, is the first Jack Nicklaus designed golf course in Vietnam, BRG Legend Hill Golf Resort. Nestled in the foothills of the Soc Song District, BRG Legend Hill is also the first golf course to operate a two green per hole concept, meaning that despite being an 18-hole course, there are 36 greens on the course, offering golfers a different experience each time they play. That alone makes BRG Legend Hill Golf Resort worth visiting, more than once and the uniqueness makes it one of the best Hanoi golf courses.
Perhaps the most scenic golf course in the whole of north Vietnam, is the Kings’ Island Golf Resort. Just over 30 kilometres away from Hanoi, the course was designed by Robert McFarland and opened for play in 1993. A lovely aspect of playing golf on Kings’ Island, is access is only available by boat and once at the venue, there is a total of 36 holes, split into two, 18-hole golf courses, the Lakeside Course and the Mountain Course. As the name suggests, the Lakeside Course features a number of water hazards, with the course winding its way around the lakes. The Mountain Course offers great views of the mountains in the distance but is not particularly mountainous or hilly itself and is in fact situated in a tranquil, water based setting. Both courses are exciting to play and offer a good challenge to players of all abilities and the restaurant serves a delicious range of cuisine, so it’s well worth booking a table.
The Phoenix Golf Resort, is the largest golf facility in the country and the limestone rocks make for a spectacular backdrop to a round of golf. The 54-hole complex, features three different courses and the undulations, on both fairways and greens, can be quite demanding, making a good read of the surface a must for a low score. The three course are named Phoenix, Master and Dragon, with the latter being the most spectacular. The front nine holes on the Dragon are some of the best you will find anywhere in Asia and this makes the Dragon Course easily one of the best Hanoi golf courses available. If you can only play one course at the Phoenix Golf Resort, making it the Dragon.
If you love dramatic scenery during a round of golf, then Sky Lake Resort and Golf Club will not disappoint. There is a choice of two, 18-hole golf courses and in 2015, the resort received the award for best championship golf course in Vietnam. It was the only Hanoi golf course to receive this level of accolade and both the Sky Course and Lake Course are very worth of being classed as two of the best golf courses in Hanoi. Lakes, jungle and mountain backdrops are the order of the day at the Sky Lake Resort and large, multi-tiered greens are a regular feature, especially on the Lake Course.
It’s hard to argue against Sky Lake Resort and Golf Club as being home to the best Hanoi golf course but with so many excellent golf courses to choose from in this region of Vietnam, the only choice is to play and enjoy as many as time allows.
